Flora M. Rice - Feb. 6, 1907 - June 22, 2007

Flora Rice, age 100, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Flora Mary Taylor was born February 6, 1907, in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, to Joseph Telesphere and Marie (Roy) Taylor. She joined one sister, Mary Ann, and one brother, Bill, prior to the family moving to Iroquois, Illinois. The Taylor family then welcomed three more children: Delia, Ed, and Albert. The entire family eventually moved by train to the Rembrandt, Iowa, area.

On April 16, 1927, Flora was united in marriage to Everett Rice in the Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. This union was blessed with five children: Marjorie, Robert, Richard, Edward and Thomas. They lived their entire married life in Storm Lake. Initially, the family lived in a house on the south side of Storm Lake from 1927 to 1945, and then they moved to the farm in 1945.

Flora was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church as well as a 50 year member of Eastern Star. She shared many stories of her life over the years with her family and friends.

Everett and Flora shared many adventures and memories over their 54 years of marriage. They traveled to 46 of the 50 states, as well as embarking on various cruises. Her greatest blessing was her family. She found much pleasure in their visits and joy in their company.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Marjorie Otto and her husband Arlin of Lakeside, Iowa; four sons: Robert Rice and his wife Dorothy of Denison, Iowa, Richard Rice and his wife Monica of Storm Lake, Edward Rice and Loa of Alta, Iowa, and Thomas Rice and his wife Doris of Storm Lake; 19 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; many extended family and friends.

Flora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett; her five siblings: Mary Ann, Bill, Delia, Ed and Albert; two great grandchildren: Christopher Allen and April Rice.

Funeral Service will be Monday, June 25, 2007, at 10:30 am at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call anytime after 4:00 on Sunday, June 24, 2007, where the family will be present from 6-8:00 pm at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:30 pm.
