Elsie M. Arndt, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Elsie Marie Andersen was born on August 19, 1926, in Turin, Iowa, to Nels and Anna Andersen. Following her parent’s early passing, she was raised by Nels and Helen Nelsen, who would raise Elsie as their own. She attended school in Castana, Iowa, graduating from Castana High School in 1944. The family faithfully attended the Ingemann Danish Lutheran Church where Elsie was baptized and confirmed.
On August 28, 1949, Elsie was united in marriage to Richard J. Arndt at the Ingemann Danish Lutheran Church in Moorehead, Iowa. This couple was blessed with two sons: Michael and Tom.
Elsie remained a faithful member of the Lutheran Church, currently a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. She was a homemaker her entire life, creating a warm and safe place for her family to live and grow. Family was a very important part of Elsie’s life and she took a special interest in their lives.
Those who will cherish Elsie’s memory are her sons: Michael Arndt and his wife, Loxi, of Hinton, Iowa, and Tom Arndt and his wife, Julie, of Iowa City, Iowa; three grandchildren: Austin Arndt, Kelly Arndt and Molly Arndt; nieces and nephews: Shirley Andersen, Paul Andersen, Roger Andersen; extended family and many friends.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Anna Andersen; her adoptive parents, Nels and Helen Nelsen; her husband, Richard (July 22, 2001); brothers: Howard and John Anderson; step-brothers: Roy and Bob Nelsen.
Visitation: 5-8:00 p.m. April 07, 2010, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. April 08, 2010, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
