William E. “Bill” Young, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
William E. Young was born March 10, 1917, at Traer, Iowa, the son of William E., Sr., and Emma (Krezek) Young. He attended school in Pierson, Iowa, before graduating from high school in Alta, Iowa. He continued his education at National Business Training College in Sioux City, Iowa, before joining his father in the petroleum business.
Bill proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air Force. He entered service September 28, 1942, and was with the 85th and 2540 Base Units at Metagorda Island, Texas, and served overseas on Tinian Island. He was honorably discharged February 10, 1946.
On September 30, 1938, Bill was united in marriage to Doris Stieneke at Storm Lake. They were blessed with two children, Pamela and Richard. Bill worked in automotive parts management until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge as well as a past member of the Lions Club and a past charter member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed wood carving in his spare moments. A loving husband and devoted father, Bill loved his family above all and treasured the time he spent with them. His caring presence will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Pamela (Jim) Olson of Winterset, Iowa; son Richard (Liz) Young of Columbus, Nebraska; grandchildren: Jeff (Angie) Olson of Winterset; Amy (Rick) Straight of Lorimor, Iowa; Bill (Kristin) Olson of Indianola, Iowa; Alicia (Paul) Fults of San Jacinto, California; Leslie (Cade) Thibodeaux of Fort Collins, Colorado; Lindsay Young of Boulder, Colorado, and Nicholas (Ashley) Young of Columbus, Nebraska; great-grandchildren: Karly Olson, Shae Olson, Mia Olson, Ryan Hinsch and Colby Hinsch; extended family and many friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Young, and his wife, Doris Young.
Services for Mr. Young will be held Saturday, October 13, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Alta VFW Post 6172. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call on Friday, October 12, 2007, from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
