Irene V. Mandernach - Apr. 17, 1919 - Nov. 11, 2007

Irene Mandernach, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, November 11, 2007, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center.

Irene Vernice Mahler was born April 17, 1919, in Aurelia, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Sophie (Hasenwinkel) Mahler. She spent her youth in Cherokee County and attended school at Elk Country School. On June 4, 1939, Irene was joined in marriage to Raymond Mandernach at the Methodist Parsonage in Storm Lake. The couple was blessed with six children: Bruce, Eugene, John, Jeannine, Darrel, and one son who died as an infant.

Raymond and Irene farmed north of Storm Lake until they moved to Storm Lake where they lived together until Raymond’s death on September 14, 1993. Irene was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake where she was also active in the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Buena Vista Garden Club and gave time as a volunteer for the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Coffee Shop. Irene enjoyed sewing and liked to quilt. Her family was always her first concern and she treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all those who loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her four sons: Bruce and wife Eileen of Newell, Iowa; Eugene and wife Gladys of Storm Lake; John and wife Millie of Adel, Iowa; Darrel and wife Linda of DeSmet, South Dakota; her daughter, Jeannine Johnson of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Rhonda (Ron) Degner, Rodney (Melisa) Mandernach, Ryan (Sherry) Mandernach, Reece Mandernach, Brenda (Lance) McFadden, Douglas (Linda) Mandernach, Rick (Lisa) Mandernach, Angela Mandernach, Grant (Diana) Mandernach, Eric (Jean) Mandernach, Melissa (James) Temple, Kirk (Jaci) Johnson, Carrie (Josh) Nothdurft, LeAnn (Michael) Bartholow, Jenna Mandernach; great-grandchildren: Rachel, Shayla, Shane, Chelsea, Mackenzie, Aaron, Allison, Megan, Lauren, Jordan, Jaycee, Hunter, Preston, Rebecca, Elli, Nolan, Savannah, Mason, Aibrey, Andrew, Courtney, Collin, Trevor, Ayden, Avery and Ethan; foster great-grandchildren: Tyler, Alexis and Jeremy; her sisters: Florence Buddenhagen of Aurelia, Iowa, and Rosalyn Puhrmann of Litchfield, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Delores Mahler of Cherokee, Iowa; brother-in-law, Earl J. Mandernach of Odebolt, Iowa; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; an infant son; a grandson, Michael; a granddaughter, Julie; brothers and sisters and their spouses: Clara and Calvin “Kelly” Zoffka, Walter and Esther Mahler, Elmer and Waldina Mahler, Florence Mahler (Elmer’s first wife), Leona and Albert Holland, LaVera Mahler, Emmett and Eunice Mahler, and Richard Mahler; brothers- and sisters-in-law: John Buddenhagen, Earl Puhrmann, Dorothy and Russell Anderson, and Bonnie Mandernach.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mandernach will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Reverend Steve Schulz will officiate. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call Lake on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present.
