Edwin P. Madsen - Mar. 10, 1929 - Nov. 14, 2007

Edwin P. Madsen, age 78, of Rembrandt, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Edwin Patrick Madsen was born on March 10, 1929, in Denison, Iowa, the son of Edwin Albert and Marie Catherine (Sheridan) Madsen. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed as a youth into the Catholic faith. Ed attended classes at Havelock and Lincoln Lee Township schools before graduating from Rembrandt High School in 1946. He then served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict before he was honorably discharged.

On June 17, 1953, Ed was united in holy matrimony with Bonnie Lenz in Spencer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with 10 children: Terry, Rich, Ron, Pat, Paul, Mary Jo, Dave, Dan Sherry and Eddie.

Ed was a man who loved the land, so it only made sense that he spent his life doing what he loved, farming and raising cattle. An active and faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Ed believed in living his faith from day to day. He gave back to the community in which he worked and raised his family. He served as a Lee township trustee and gave of his time as both a member and president of the Rembrandt and later Sioux Rapids/Rembrandt school boards. He was an avid supporter of both the Rembrandt and Sioux Rapids Fire Departments.

When he could, Ed loved to travel and go camping. He also enjoyed riding with his sons in their semi-trucks. He liked sports and watching sporting events. But it was his family that meant everything to Ed. A loving husband and devoted father, he treasured the days of watching his own children grow up. Then in his later years, he found a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His kind and caring ways will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 happy years, Bonnie, of Rembrandt; his children: Terry Movall of Storm Lake; Rich (Linda) Madsen of Rembrandt; Ron (Karla) Madsen of Rembrandt; Pat (Milly) Madsen of West Bend, Iowa; Paul (Joy) Madsen of Sioux Rapids; Mary Jo (Jim) Davis of Storm Lake; Dave (Lori) Madsen of Marathon, Iowa; Dan (Michele) Madsen of Albert City, Iowa; Sherry (Ryan) Mandernach of Newell, Iowa; and Edwin A.
