Don R. Koster - Mar. 30, 1934 - May 21, 2007

Don R. Koster, age 73, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died on Monday, May 21, 2007, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital at Spencer, Iowa.

Don Richard Koster, the son of Anthony and Marie (Maurer) Koster, was born at Houston, Texas, on March 30, 1934. He received his education at Rossie, Iowa, graduating from Rossie High School.

Don was united in marriage to Shirley Valentine on May 25, 1954, at Sioux Rapids. This union was blessed with two children: Donald Allen and Julie Ann. Don and Shirley spent their married life on their acreage north of Linn Grove where they raised their family. Don was employed with Jackson Millwork in Spirit Lake, Iowa, for over 25 years. He was a very creative and artistic man who designed and fabricated flowers out of metal as well as creating other beautiful and unique metal artwork. Don also enjoyed woodworking, including wood burning and wood carvings. His home—indoors and out—is decorated with many items exhibiting his talent.

Don’s memory will be cherished by his wife of nearly 53 years, Shirley, of rural Linn Grove; his son, Don and Valerie Koster of Spirit Lake; his daughter, Julie Koster and James Curtis of Milford, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kristina, Jared, and Angela; two great-grandchildren, Preston and Aidan; other relatives and many friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Elmer; and two sisters, Mary and Lorene.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2007, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal, Iowa, with Reverend Robert Brown celebrating the Mass for Christian Burial. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
