Robert G. Bethune - Oct. 5, 1942 - July 16, 2007

Robert Bethune, age 64, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Robert Gene Bethune, son of Lester and Clara (Goodman) Bethune, was born at Randolph, Nebraska, on October 5, 1942. Bob lived his youth and received his education at Randolph, graduating from Randolph High School in 1960. He continued his education at the Nebraska Vocational Technical School at Milford, Nebraska, where he graduated from the diesel and farm tractor program in 1963.

Bob was united in marriage to Linda Lee Imhoff on July 15, 1965, at Pocahontas, Iowa. The couple was blessed with four children: Londa, Travis, Cory and Kyle. Following their marriage, Bob and Linda resided in Pocahontas where Bob was employed with Gochenour Implement. In 1974, they moved to Storm Lake where Bob worked for Hultgrens-Gerlach Implement, which later became Hultgrens Implement. His entire career was spent working on John Deere tractors. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and especially camping, fishing and gardening. Other interests included woodworking, tractors, reading and emailing jokes to family and friends.

Among those who cherish Bob’s life and memory are his wife of 42 years, Linda of Storm Lake; his children: Londa and David Stille of Storm Lake; Travis and Lisa Bethune of Newell; Kyle and Melanie Bethune of Alta; his grandchildren: Matthew and Heath Stille, Jared and Sary Stille, all of Storm Lake; Amanda and Matt Fisher of Newell; Mark and Travis Frederick of Newell; Meagan Hammer and Jasmine Bethune of Alta; and Emma Mills of Alta. Bob is also survived by two brothers and their wives: Merle and Sandi Bethune of York, Nebraska; Roy and Cindy Bethune of Grand Island, Nebraska; one sister and her husband, Alice and Tom Townsend of Grand Island, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Cory; a granddaughter, Tara Stille; and his brother, Don Bethune.

Funeral services for Mr. Bethune will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Bruce Lesemann officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
