Lyle R. Ricketts - May 8, 1920 - July 28, 2007

Lyle Ricketts, age 87, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Longhouse Residence Nursing Home in Spencer, Iowa.

Lyle R. Ricketts was born on May 8, 1920, in Webster County, Iowa, near Vincent, Iowa. He was the oldest son of Claude and Clara (Dencklau) Ricketts. Lyle was baptized and confirmed in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church at Colfax Township. He attended eight years of country school and four years at the Eagle Grove High School, graduating in 1938.

After graduation, Lyle was engaged in farming until “Uncle Sam” called him to war. He served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy until his health faded and he returned back to the states. He was a patient in the Army and Veterans Hospital for two years until his honorable discharge in 1945.

On June 27, 1948, Lyle was united in marriage to Helen Simonsen. To this union, three children came into this world: Ronald, Nancy and Beverly.

Lyle loved gardening, fishing and trapping. He enjoyed BINGO and was a BINGO caller for many of his retirement years. Above all, Lyle was a proud father and grandfather who enjoyed life to the fullest.

Those who will always cherish his memory include his three children: Ronald Ricketts and his wife Becky of Spencer, Iowa, Nancy Kerns and her husband David of LeGrand, Iowa and Beverly Heintzelman and her husband Mark of Kingston, New Hampshire; seven grandchildren; four great grandsons; one sister, Evonne Larson of Thousand Oaks, California; other relatives and many friends.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers: Carl and Kenneth.

Funeral services for Mr. Ricketts will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2007, at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids with Reverend Leela Prince officiating. Burial will be in the Garfield Cemetery in Webb, Iowa, flag presentation by the Sioux Rapids American Legion. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held 4-8:00 pm, Thursday, August 2, 2007, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids where the family will be present from 6-8:00 pm. Friends who wish to send online condolences to the family may do so via the funeral home website: www.sliefert.com
