Leroy F. Kendall - Jan. 13, 1915 - Aug. 15, 2007

Leroy Kendall, age 92, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Leroy Franklin Kendall, the son of Jim and Addie (Reynolds) Kendall, was born at Lowell, Kansas, on January 13, 1915. He lived in Lowell until 1918 when his father died due to the flu epidemic. The remainder of Leroy’s youth was spent in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He completed his education at Commerce, Oklahoma, graduating from the Commerce High School. Leroy served his country during World War II in the United States Army from June 17, 1943, to February 4, 1946.

Leroy was united in marriage to Opal B. Steig at Faribault, Minnesota, on September 12, 1937. The couple was blessed with one son, Steve. Most of Leroy and Opal’s married lifetime was spent in Storm Lake where he made mattresses and did upholstery work.

Leroy was baptized on December 1, 1968, at Storm Lake, Iowa. He was a member of the Storm Lake Baptist Church and also the Moose and Elks Lodges. He was a loving and devoted father. Traveling and fishing were some of the activities that Leroy enjoyed very much.

Those who will cherish his memory include his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sharon Kendall of Dublin, Ohio; his grandson, Alex; as well as other relatives and friends.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal, on October 26, 2005; and his sister, Myrtle Resecker.

Services for Mr. Kendall will be held Friday, August 17, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake with Pastor Tom Hinshaw officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Visitation will take place at the funeral home for one hour prior to the beginning of the services on Friday. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements.
