B. Meree Jacobson - Sept. 26, 1916 - Sept. 13, 2007

Birdie Meree Jacobson, age 90, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, September 13, 2007, at Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

Birdie Meree Fast was born September 26, 1916, in Barton County, Missouri, to Kiley May (Rickman) Fast and Claudie Marion Fast. She was raised in that area and received her teaching degree there. She taught for a short time before meeting her future husband.

Floyd and Meree were married May 26, 1938, at the Jacobson Farm near Sioux Rapids. Their union was blessed with four children: Charlie Marion, Roger Dale, Thomas Floyd and Janice Eileen. Roger Dale died shortly after he was born.

Meree, which she preferred to be called, was very active in the farming operation. She enjoyed canning, baking, gardening and cooking for the many people who would “just stop by.” Meree was very well-known for her homemade sour cream chocolate cakes. She really enjoyed entertaining and visiting. And in her free time she helped when needed with the many chores around the farm. Meree loved nature and enjoyed watching and feeding the many birds.

Meree was active in her local church, serving on the Ladies Aid as well as other committees. She truly enjoyed the times the ladies gathered together to make quilts. Meree and Floyd chose to take classes at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids and were baptized there. She lived for her Lord and walked with Him.

Family was very important to Meree. Her grandchildren were very special to her and they all spent many hours with her. She had saved every clipping from the paper about any events her family members were in. Each of them was very dear to Meree in their own special way. She took great pride in knowing all her children had served their country. And when Janice was stationed in Japan, Meree and Floyd were fortunate to visit her.

Meree entered the Sioux Care Center in the spring of 2002. It was there she passed away at the age of 90 years and 352 days.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Charlie and Bonnie of Mankato, Minnesota; Thomas and Pam of Sioux Rapids; and Janice Trebesch of Linn Grove, Iowa; grandchildren: Erica and Jon of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Mike and Anna of Tucson, Arizona; and Ensign Matthew Jacobson, United States Navy; many other special relatives and friends.

Meree was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, brother, Barton and son-in-law Glen Trebesch.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Jacobson are scheduled for Monday, September 17, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids with Reverend Tonna Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery at Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2007, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids where the family will be present.

Do not shed a tear of sadness. Be jubilant! For today I am Home in Paradise.
