Harold Keith Klindt - May 16, 1920 - Mar. 11, 2006

Harold Keith Klindt, age 85, died on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

Harold Keith Klindt was born on May 16, 1920, at his home in Lake View, Iowa, to William H. and Christine Momsen Klindt. He attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Lake View High School.

Some of Harold's fondest memories were of participating in 4-H and showing calves at the fair. Harold drove a tank wagon until he entered the armed services in 1942. He was honorably discharged in 1944 to take over the family farm after his father's death.

The neighbor girl took a shine to Harold and he and Vera May Johnson were married at her home on February 24, 1946. The couple was blessed with four daughters-Paula, Peg, Pam, and Pat (the four PKs). Harold was a little disappointed that "Pat" wasn't "Philip" but he soon got over it. His daughters were a great source of pride to Harold. Harold and Vera were partners in farming until they retired in 1984.

After retirement, they enjoyed traveling, spending 16 winters in Texas. They also enjoyed their ten years in their lake home at Lost Island. The grandchildren enjoyed the paddle boat, the beach, and fishing off the dock. Harold and Vera moved to town in 2002. Harold entered the Sioux Care Center in September of 2005. The care center was only four blocks from home so Harold made many trips down the middle of the street in a wheelchair for family gatherings.

Harold loved his family, friends, and collecting farm memorabilia and old cars and tractors. Harold's farm memorabilia collection took up one entire side of the machine shed. Harold loved to talk. He loved people and people loved him. On family camping trips, Harold would park the camper and then take off to visit with the other campers. Vera and girls would be left to set up camp. Harold's happiest moments were spent at the kitchen table drinking coffee or iced tea and visiting with family and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Vera; daughters Paula (Zim) Coykendall of Big Lake, Minnesota, Peggy (Les) Milton of Laurens, Pamela (Tom) Jacobson of Sioux Rapids, and Patricia (Bill) Fitzpatrick of Storm Lake. Harold has one brother Robert Klindt (Donna Petersen) of Montfort, Wisconsin, and one sister Francis (Don) Stanzel of Spencer, Iowa. Harold and Vera have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the First United Church of Christ in Sioux Rapids with Dean Maiden officiating. Inurnment will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 pm, Friday, March 17, 2006, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids.
