Glenn E. Tutt - July 23, 1922 - Apr. 16, 2006

Glenn E. Tutt, age 83, of Laurens, Iowa, and formerly of Marathon, Iowa, died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital.

Glenn Earl Tutt was born to Earl and Emma (Blomquist) Tutt on July 23, 1922, near Webb, Iowa. He was raised in his parents’ home at Marathon, Iowa, where he received his education and graduated from Marathon High School.

Glenn served his country during World War II in the United States Air Force, 340th Bombardment Squadron, 97th Bombardment Group. He flew many missions on a B17 bomber before he was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant.

On November 28, 1942, Glenn was united in marriage with Margaret Anderson. Their union was blessed with a son, David, and three daughters, Linda, Lisa and Lori. After 45 years of marriage, Margaret passed away in 1987. Glenn later married Rosemary Talbot on January 28, 1988. Glenn was farmer who loved working the land. A loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, his life revolved around farming and his family.

As Glenn’s family grew, he did additional work for Medford’s in Laurens and eventually for Alceco in Albert City where he remained until his retirement. At retirement, Glenn bought a home in Marathon and lived in town. He and Margaret lived there until her death. After Glenn and Rosemary were married, they stayed in Marathon for a time and then, as Glenn’s health failed, they moved to their present home in Laurens.

Glenn understood that small rural communities needed people with community spirit and he gave freely of his time for the good of his family and others. He served on the local school board for 16 years while his children were in school and also served on the Marathon city council and as Mayor of Marathon during his retirement years. He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Marathon. His kind ways and caring spirit will be dearly missed every day.

Left to cherish Glenn’s memory are his wife, Rosemary, of Laurens; son David and his wife, Fran Tutt of Spencer, Iowa; daughter Lisa Jones of North Liberty, Iowa; daughter Lori and husband Dan Ring of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren: Scott Van Oss, Sarah Clark, Nicole Ring, Christopher Ring and Melissa Meyer; sister Kathryn Miller of Gilbert, Iowa; sister Margaret and husband William Boughman of Ida Grove, Iowa; sister Shirley Tutt of Spencer, Iowa; uncle Wendell Tutt of Marathon, Iowa; extended family and many friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret; daughter Linda Harriman; sons-in-law Art Harriman and Michael Jones; and one brother, Kenneth Robert Tutt.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Marathon, Iowa, with Pastor David Schumann officiating. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. Sliefert Funeral Home in Marathon is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be at the church prior to the funeral service from 11:30 a.m. until service time.
