Evelyn O. Garringer - Feb. 7, 1908 - June 9, 2006

Evelyn O. Garringer of Spencer, Iowa, and formerly of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa.

Evelyn Olivia Knudson was born February 7, 1908, in Linn Grove, Iowa, to Oliver B. and Emma C. (Peterson) Knudson. She lived with her family in the Linn Grove area where she attended and graduated from Linn Grove High School in 1926.

On August 18, 1939, Evelyn was united in marriage to Harold Garringer at the Lutheran parsonage in Sioux Rapids. They were blessed with three children: Kathryn Irene, Harold Douglas and Linda Louise.

Following their marriage, they began farming in the Rossie area but most of their married lifetime was spent farming near Sioux Rapids. They retired in 1979. Evelyn was a loving and devoted wife and mother who enjoyed being a homemaker. Harold died on January 3, 1996.

Evelyn was a faithful member of the First Lutheran Church of Sioux Rapids. She was a member of the Ladies Aid as well as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

One of the many joys in Evelyn’s life was spending time with her family and cooking wonderful meals. She delighted in hosting family gatherings. Evelyn was a member of the Sioux Rapids Country Club and various card clubs for she loved a good card game.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kathryn and Gary Arndt of Spencer, Iowa, Doug and Roberta Garringer of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Linda and Chuck Zarns of Princeton, Minnesota; five grandchildren; two sisters: Wilma Budolfson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Bernice Budolfson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; extended family and many friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; one brother, Sever Knudson; three sisters: Clara Knudson, Beda Meyer and Corrine Maxwell.

Funeral service will be held Monday, June 12, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids with Pastor Tonna Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service time Monday, June 12, 2006, at the church.
