Dorothy Peterson - Aug. 9, 1913 - Sept. 21, 2006

Dorothy Peterson, age 93, of Spencer, Iowa, and formerly of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, September 21, 2006, in St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Dorothy Lois Warme was born August 9, 1913, at a farm home in Washington Township, Buena Vista County, near Alta, Iowa, to Eric J and Edith Rosedin (Lindberg) Warme. She was baptized into the Christian faith on August 13, 1913, and confirmed her faith on April 1, 1928, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. She grew up on a farm north of Alta and graduated from Fairview High School in 1932.

On November 11, 1934, Dorothy was united in marriage to Emmett Peterson at the Methodist Parsonage in Peterson, Iowa. To this union six children were born: Sandra, Loy, Douglas, Cheryl, Curtis and Gregory.

A loving wife, Dorothy was a partner in her husband’s businesses as well as in his life. A devoted mother, Dorothy was active in her children’s lives as they were growing up. When she became a grandmother and later a great-grandmother, she continued that presence as much as possible. From school activities to weddings, she was there, sharing words of wisdom, love and hugs for support.

In her later years, when it became difficult to travel to all of these events, she would enjoy all of her many photo albums and loved to share them with others. Her love for her family will live on always in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by three sons and their wives: Douglas and Judy Peterson of Okoboji, Iowa; Curtis and Charlotte Peterson of Galva, Iowa; and Gregory and Nancy Peterson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; three daughters and their husbands: Sandra and Richard “Curly” Morris of Alta, Iowa; Loy and Charles Roder of Arnolds Park, Iowa; and Cheryl and Stanley Reynolds of Oakland, Oregon; eighteen grandchildren: Desi Suter, Rick, Ron and Roger Morris, Annie Anderson, Deb Allen, Shannon, Shane and Charlie Roder, Angie Van Egan, Julie Ault, Stephanie O’Brien, Michele Lovemark, Kathy Peterson, Kristie Hatch, Greg “Sonny” Peterson, Jr., Carrie Peterson and Marnie Coin and their spouses; 33 great-grandchildren: Monica Mattson, Aaron and Ashley Anderson, Amber Ritcher, Chris and Douglas Allen, Danielle Jackson, Clay, Leah, Katie, Levi, Dana and Tanner Morris, Shane Jr, Skyler, Paden, Shonda, Ryan and Christopher Roder, Logan Geisinger, Trinity and Gaige Van Egan, Elise and Tony Ault, Tad Andreason, Bradley O’Brien, Courtney Lovemark, Chloe and Sophie Peterson, Kyle and Kennedy Hatch, Gregory and Preslie Peterson; three great-great-grandchildren: Kyler Mattson, Sierra Fields and Braeden Jackson; two sisters: Alice and her husband Don Elmer of St. George, Utah, and Jean Nelson of Spencer, Iowa; many extended family members and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmett; her brother Dale Warme; daughter-in-law Sandie Peterson; and two great-grandsons, Andrew and Kyle Suter.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Peterson are scheduled for Sunday, September 24, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids with Reverend Tonna Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery at Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the church in Sioux Rapids from 12:30 p.m. on Sunday until service time.
