Carl Delmar Heschke - May 5, 1923 - Nov. 15, 2006

Carl Delmar Heschke, age 83, of Fonda, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at Loring Hospital at Sac City, Iowa.

Carl Heschke was born May 5, 1923, at Storm Lake, Iowa, to Otto and Minnie (Delbridge) Heschke. He lived his youth in the Albert City, Truesdale, and Varina areas. Carl was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He received his education at Varina and was a 1941 graduate of the Varina High School. Carl was called to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a private first class serving in the Phillipines.

On September 15, 1951, Carl was united in marriage to Betty Koch at Jackson, Minnesota, and this union was blessed with three children: Carlene, Larry, and Carla. Following their marriage Carl and Betty resided on a farm east of Varina for four years and then moved to their farm east of Fonda where they lived the remainder of their married lifetime. Carl loved the farm and working outside and was devoted to his vocation.

Carl will be remembered as being gifted in carpentry and for building all kinds of things. He also enjoyed fishing, reading, keeping up with world events and politics. In his later years, Carl’s greatest joys were his two grandchildren, Derek and Taryn, and his cat, Curley.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Betty, of Fonda, Iowa; his children: Carlene Heschke and partner Vince Wilson of Sanger, Texas; Larry Heschke of Fonda, Iowa; and Carla and husband Scott Pitstick of Jolley, Iowa; his two grandchildren: Derek and Taryn Pitstick; other relatives and many friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Dorothy Shannon and Minnie Samuels.

Memorial service for Mr. Heschke will be held Saturday, November 18, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will be held at the funeral home for one hour prior to service time. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
