Barry Dean Pommerville - Dec. 26, 1932 - Jan. 30, 2005

Barry Dean Pommerville, Sr., age 73, of Storm Lake died on January 30, 2005, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Barry Dean Pommerville, Sr., was born December 26, 1932, in Carleton, Michigan, to William Homer McCoy and Leona (Lewen) Pommerville. He lived with his grandparents on their farm during his childhood. He attended Carleton Public School and graduated from Hammond Technical High School.

During the Korean War, Barry proudly served his country in the United States Army as a PFC.

On October 2, 1972, Barry was united in marriage to Shirley DeShazo in Yakima, Washington.

Barry enjoyed attending auctions, garage sales, flea markets, and collecting old movies. He loved watching these movies, especially his favorite one, Cold Ones. In his younger years, his nick-name was “Happy” and in his later years, everyone called him “Poppy.”

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Barry Kenneth Pommerville and his wife, Pegann of Newell, Laurie Shiplov and her husband, Walter of Chesterton, Indiana, and Brenda Baillie and her husband Rik of Dover, Tennessee; his step-father, Kenneth Pommerville of Hammond, Indiana; step-daughter Betty Brenner and husband David of Allen, Texas; four sisters: Nadean Chavez of Albany, Illinois, Sherry Malovich of Hammond, Indiana, Mona Rincon of Hammond, Indiana and Kendra Piotrowski of Rolling Meadows, Illinois; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and friends.

Preceding Barry in death are his mother, Leona Pommerville, and his wife, Shirley.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 3, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Burial will be at a later date. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to services Thursday, February 3, 2005, where the family will be present to greet friends.
