Ruby Pewsey - Aug. 27, 1911 - Mar. 29, 2005

Ruby Pewsey, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at her home in Otsego Place.

Ruby was born on August 27, 1911, in Hayes Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa to Emmett and Daisy (Pettyjohn) Anderson. She was baptized at the Truesdale Methodist Church and later confirmed at the same church. As a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, she was active in Missionary and WSCS and taught Sunday School to primary children.

Ruby spent her youth in the community of Truesdale. She received her education in the Truesdale Consolidated School system, graduating from Truesdale High School.

On October 29, 1932, Ruby was united in marriage to Hobart W. Pewsey in Rembrandt, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children: Joan, William and Carol. Ruby often worked side by side with her husband on the farm and even won a Dekalb contour plowing contest. They moved to the Hayes community in 1945 to farm on the south shore of Storm Lake.

Ruby was an active community member serving as officer in a number of clubs and lodges: Hayes Farmers Club, Homemakers Club, Country Neighbors and Farm Bureau. As a Rebekah in IOOF she served as Noble Grand and held most of the chairs. She was always ready for a game of cards with her family, with the lunch crowd at the Storm Lake Senior Center, and with residents at Methodist Manor and Otsego place where she had lived since 2002. Ruby took pleasure in the numerous winters she spent in Mesa, Arizona, and she liked to garden, crochet, quilt, and play shuffleboard.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Joan and husband Johnny Clark of Papillion, Nebraska, Dr. William C. and wife Barbara Pewsey of Storm Lake, and Carol Perkinson of Mesa, Arizona. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Bill and wife Joni Pewsey of Glendale, Arizona, John Stickrod of Omaha, Nebraska, Mark and wife Sandi Stickrod of Omaha, Nebraska, Paul and wife Tammie Stickrod of Omaha, Nebraska, Jennifer and husband Ed Tullar of Alton, Iowa, Melissa and husband Chris Richter of Storm Lake, and Christopher Perkinson of Mesa, Arizona; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mettie Pewsey of Albion, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hobart; brother Everet Anderson; sister Bertha Monkelien; and grandson Charles Pewsey.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 1:30 pm at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake with Reverend David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake from 4:30 to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 1, 2005, where the family will be present.
