Charlie H. Behrens - Feb. 11, 1926 - Mar. 30, 2005

Charlie H. Behrens, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Charlie was born February 11, 1926, to Henry and Frieda (Hagman) Behrens at Storm Lake. He grew up in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1944.

On June 17, 1944, Charlie entered the United States Navy to support his country’s efforts during World War II. He saw action in Okinawa as a Seaman 1st Class with the Mobil Repair Unit. He was honorably discharged on June 11, 1946.

Charlie was a carpenter by trade, but he also enjoyed using his carpentry skills for personal projects as well. He was a volunteer for the Buena Vista Historical Museum in Storm Lake. In his spare time, Charlie could often be found fishing.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Herbert and wife Helen Behrens of Wakefield, Rhode Island; four nieces, Deborah Behrens of Littleton, Colorado, Cynthia Sendelbach of Tiffin, Ohio, Paula Behrens of Conshohochen, Pennsylvania, and Barbara Behrens Kay of Brunswick, Maine; four great nephews, one great niece and a host of friends.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Frieda Behrens.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

There will be no visitation prior to the memorial service, but after the services, family and friends are invited to gather together at the Lakeshore Café in Storm Lake to share memories and celebrate Mr. Behren’s life.
