Lloyd Tymeson - Jan. 31, 1913 - Apr. 7, 2005

Lloyd Tymeson, age 92, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Lloyd A. Tymeson was born January 31, 1913, to Albert and Birdie (Aiken) Tymeson in Truesdale, Iowa. He received his education in the Storm Lake schools, graduating from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1930. Lloyd continued his education at Buena Vista College where he graduated in 1934. While a junior at Buena Vista, Lloyd coached basketball at Storm Lake St. Mary’s High School. Lloyd’s father, Albert, purchased what was then called the Storm Lake Bank located at 600 Lake Avenue in Storm Lake in the aftermath of the Great Depression in 1937. The bank was known as Commercial State Bank, Commercial Trust & Savings Bank and Central Bank in succeeding years. After coaching and teaching for three years in Jolley, Iowa, Lloyd began his career with the bank. He was elected president of the family bank when his father passed away in 1955. He was elected Chairman of the Board in 1978. The bank was sold to Tim and John Brown in 1990; however, Lloyd remained on the board until 2001.

On April 17, 1938, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Jean Nutter. Their union was blessed with four children: James, Kristin, Tracy and Albert. Marjorie passed away in 1978. He later married Margaret Dawson. When World War II broke out, Lloyd joined the United States Army in 1941 and served his country as a finance officer in Calcutta before being discharged with honor in 1946.

In addition to being a steady influence in the business community, Lloyd was active in community affairs. He served Buena Vista University as a trustee and benefactor. He was also a trustee at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake and a member of Kiwanis. He was on the board of directors of World Insurance Company of Omaha, Nebraska, and was a member of the Storm Lake Elks Lodge and the Storm Lake Masons. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, and pool when his time allowed.

A devoted family man, Lloyd leaves to cherish his memory his children: James (Paula) Tymeson of West Des Moines, Iowa, Kristin (Tom) Grunig of Sioux City, Iowa, Tracy Peck of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and Albert (Tena) Tymeson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren: Christopher Tymeson of Topeka, Kansas, Todd (Angela) Tymeson of Bentonville, Arkansas, Nathan (Sarah) Tymeson of Waverly, Minnesota, Elizabeth (Mustapha) Tabia of Dearborn, Michigan, Meghan Tymeson of Diamond, Missouri, Benjamin Grunig and Kelly Grunig, both of Sioux City, Iowa, Ashley Peck, Breanna Peck and Chelsey Peck, all of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Nicholas Tymeson, Rachel Tymeson, and Adam Tymeson, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; step-grandchildren: Tate Ulven of Cherry Point, North Carolina, Jennifer Hantsbarger of Gardner, Kansas and Stephanie Ulven of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Logan Tymeson of Bentonville, Arkansas, Michela Tymeson of Waverly, Minnesota, Alexis Tabia of Dearborn, Michigan, Brendan Switzer and Michael Switzer, both of Nevada, Missouri, Nathan Bumbaugh of Lamar, Missouri, Erica Tymeson of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Jasmine Grunig of Sioux City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Virginia Tymeson of Jacksonville, Florida; special friend Francis Bean of Storm Lake; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
