Rose Marie Gard - Sept. 29, 1926 - Nov. 16, 2005

Rose Marie Gard, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at her home surrounded by her family.

Rose Marie Keenan was born on September 29, 1926, in Fonda, Iowa, to William and Noreen (Reagan) Keenan. She attended and graduated from Schaller High School in 1944. Nursing would become her chosen field of employment.

On June 2, 1949, Rose Marie was united in marriage to Vermayne Gard in Schaller, Iowa. To this union, six children were born: Susan, John, Patricia, Bob, Rosie and Nancy.

Over the years, Rose Marie donated much of her time to the Storm Lake community as evidenced by her volunteering for Hospice, the Harker House, the Storm Lake School System and the Public Library. She worked at B.V. County Hospital for several years before retiring in 1992.

Rose Marie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. She enjoyed traveling and was proud of her Irish ancestry; loved nature and spending time outdoors, especially the lake. Her passion for the outdoors was apparent by her daily walks with her two beloved dogs. Spending time with her family as a mother and grandmother was especially important to Rose Marie. She found much pride in her grandchildren and their many accomplishments. Rose Marie was a truly caring and giving person who always helped those less fortunate.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 56 years, Vermayne Gard, of Storm Lake; her children: Sue Davis and her husband Vince of Early, Iowa, Dr. John Gard and his wife Dr. Azadeh Mozaffari of Dallas, Texas, Patricia Woodle and her husband Mike of Storm Lake, Iowa, Bob Gard and his wife Missy of Lake Winnebago, Missouri, Rosie Lloyd and her husband Harold of Spencer, Iowa, Nancy Reis and her husband Bob of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three brothers: Billy Keenan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, John Keenan and his wife Judy of Houston, Texas, and Bob Keenan and his wife Barbara of Fort Morgan, Colorado; one sister Joan Evans and her husband Dick of Bettendorf, Iowa; grandchildren: Cory Davis and his wife Stephanie, Collin Davis, Gabrielle Gard, Dr. Brad Woodle, Adam Woodle, Drew Woodle, Isabela Gard, Wesley Lloyd, Trevor Lloyd, Andrew Reis and Matthew Reis; great grandchildren, Keagen and Carsen Davis; and many extended family and friends.

Rose Marie was preceded in death by her parents William and Noreen Keenan.

Memorial Service will be Monday, November 21, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Early, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call anytime after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, 2005, where family will greet friends from 6-8 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. A Legion of Mary Rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. all at the funeral home on Sunday.
