November 26, 1935 - December 18, 2005Eugene L. “Gene” Pishek, age 70, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, December 18, 2005, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Eugene Louis Pishek was born to Robert and Marie (Navotny) Pishek on November 26, 1935, at Tabor, South Dakota. He received his education in the Tyndall school system and graduated from Tyndall High School in Tyndall, South Dakota, with the Class of 1953.
Gene joined the South Dakota Air National Guard in 1958 and served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1965.
On June 13, 1959, Gene was united in holy matrimony to Donna Pechous at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Tabor, South Dakota. The couple was blessed with six children: Teresa, Mark, John, Mary Lauren, Paul and Mary. Gene and his family moved to Storm Lake in 1967 to join the Bomgaars staff. He later worked for Buena Vista County in its road maintenance department. Gene retired from his work at B.V. County in December 2000. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.
Gene was a loving husband and devoted father who treasured his family above all else. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, visiting and playing cards. Gene also enjoyed being outdoors and puttering about in the yard at his home. He was a past member of the Storm Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
Gene loved music and delighted in the time he spent playing his bass horn and singing with the American Heritage Singers and Musicians. He enjoyed all types of music, but had a real soft spot in his heart for a polka. Gene will be remembered with great love and missed dearly by his family and many friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Donna of Storm Lake; daughter Teresa (Alan) Vonnahme of LeMars, Iowa; son Mark (Lisa) Pishek of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; son John Pishek of Lincoln, Nebraska; son Paul Pishek of Auburn, Iowa; daughter Mary (Sean) Dailey of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren Molly, Jill and Becca Vonnahme of LeMars, Iowa, and Mick and Lauren Pishek of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; as well as many extended family members and a host of friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marie Pishek; and an infant daughter, Mary Lauren Pishek.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake with Reverends Bruce Lawler and Eriberto DaCosta serving as concelebrants. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call anytime after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In addition, a Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday.
