Betty Woodke, age 84, of Schaller, Iowa, died Monday, February 8, 2010, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Storm Lake, Iowa.
Betty Woodke was born on February 24, 1925, to Cletus and Maude (Lawyer) Voyles-Boisen in Meridan, Iowa. She attended Storm Lake High School.
On September 6, 1942, Betty was united in marriage to Glenn Paul “G.P.” Woodke, in Yuma, Arizona. To this union, three children were born: Roxy Jeanne, Becky Rae and Scott Reed.
Over the years, Betty was an active member of Schaller United Methodist Church, a volunteer with the Family Hospice Respite Bereavement Center of Storm Lake, and a 50 year member of Order of Eastern Star. In addition to her work at Woodke Machine Shop doing the books and other management duties, Betty also was staff writer and editor of the Schaller Herald for many years.
Betty cherished time spent with family and friends. Some of her joys were dancing, movies and playing cards. She was fond of saying; ‘Glenn was the love of her life’ and ‘she found her true calling in life as a grandmother and great-grandmother’.
Those left to cherish her memory are: a sister Virginia Freeman of Fonda, IA; a half-brother Lonnie Voyles of Galt, CA; children: Roxy Buck and husband Tom of Schaller, IA, Becky Dolphin and husband Corky of Cascade, IA, and Scott Woodke and wife Vilma of Schaller, IA; five Grandchildren: Nicolle Botcher and husband Steve of Alta, IA, Mark Murphy and wife Tracy of Johnston, IA, Glennda Woodke of Colorado Springs, CO, John Woodke and fiancé Taya of Colorado Springs, CO, and Kelly Murphy of Cedar Rapids, IA; four Great-Grandchildren: Ryan Sawyer, Jake Sawyer, Kayla Sawyer all of Alta, IA, and Nyah Rose Woodke of Colorado Springs, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Glenn; one brother: Lewis Voyles; one sister: Clara (Babe) Woodke-Grotjohn; three brothers-in-law: Frank Woodke, Wayne Freeman, Vernon Grotjohn; and one sister-in-law: Micky Voyles.
Memorial service for Betty will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the Schaller United Methodist Church. Honorary Bearers will be Scott Woodke, Tom Buck, Mark Murphy, John Woodke, Ryan Sawyer and Jake Sawyer.
Inurnment for her and Glenn, her beloved husband of sixty -six years, will be in the Schaller Cemetery during Popcorn Days, July 2010. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.
