Clifford L. Sargent - Mar. 11, 1921 - Jan. 2, 2004
Clifford L. Sargent, age 82, of Storm Lake died Friday, January 2, 2004, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Clifford Lylse Sargent was born on March 11, 1921, in Indianola, Iowa, to Paul and Ella (Fetters) Sargent. Cliff spent his childhood years in his parents home and moved with them to Spencer, Iowa, where he attended and graduated from Spencer High School.
Cliff joined the United States Army Air Corps on January 17, 1942. He served his country during World War II as a radio operator on bomber aircraft. He was honorably discharged on October 14, 1945, with the rank of SSgt.
On March 19, 1945, Cliff was united in marriage to Bette Marie Chilcutt at Salisbury, Maryland. Their union was blessed with two sons, Craig and Brad. Cliff and Bette spent more than 55 years together in happy married life.
After Cliff had completed his military obligation, he attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO. He was employed at the Ford Garage in Spencer for over 20 years. Cliff will be remembered by many as the owner and operator for over 10 years of Sarg’s Ice Cream shop in Storm Lake. He was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, serving his church as a Deacon.
Cliff was a people person and enjoyed meeting and talking to persons from all walks of life, young and old alike. But his first priority was always his family. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his sons: D. Craig and wife Nancy Sargent, and Brad and his wife Karen Sargent, both of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Alicia Sargent and fiancé Tim Buhr of Forest City, Iowa, Jennifer and husband Marcus Seaton, Paul Sargent and Angie Sargent, all of Storm Lake; one great-granddaughter: Leila Seaton; a sister-in-law Jackie and husband Bill Morris of Easton, MD; and many other extended family members and friends.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bette, on December 17, 2000, and a sister, Pauline Cowan.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Tuesday, January 6, 2004, after 3:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
