Kathryn grew up in Cherokee county, attending grade school at Visitation Parish School before attending St. Joseph Catholic High School in LeMars, Iowa.

On May 19, 1931, Kathryn was united in marriage to Leonard J. George at Visitation Parish in Maryhill. Their union was blessed with two sons: Dale and Richard, and five daughters: Marilyn, Janice, Mary Ellen, Judith and Rosie. Kathryn and Leonard celebrated 53 happy years together before he died in 1983.

Kathryn was a loving wife and devoted mother who spent much of her lifetime making a warm and comfortable home for the family she treasured. In later years, she continued to provide moral support for her family, and very much enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren. Kathryn had a talent for and enjoyed cooking. She cooked for the parish priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake; if she learned anyone was ill, she made a point of learning their favorite food, which she then prepared and took to them.

An active and faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Kathryn participated and held offices in Catholic Daughters, Ladies Guild and Prayer Chain.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Father Dale George of Cave Creek, AZ, and Richard George of Collinsville, IL; daughters: Marilyn and husband Alfred Naughton of Carroll, IA, Janice Johnson of Woodstock, IL, Mary Ellen and husband Doug Palmer of Rockport, MO, Judith and husband Mike Murrell of Chilicothe, MO, and Rosie and husband Mark Vonnahme of LeMars, IA; 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Bob Rahn of Cherokee, IA; two sisters-in-law: Della George and Louise George, both of Cherokee, IA; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding Kathryn in death were her husband; grandson, Ricky Showers; brothers: Alvin, Melvin, Joseph and William Pitts; and sisters: Mary Ellen Leonard, Gertrude Messerole, Rose Zimmer and Helen Rahn.
