Merlyn Boese - July 29, 1915 - Aug. 14, 2004

Merlyn Boese, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 14, 2004, at Sunset Knoll Nursing Home in Aurelia.

Merlyn William Boese was born July 29, 1915, in Grant Township, Buena Vista County, to Edward and Malinda (Griffel) Boese. He lived with his family in Grant Township, Section 9, Buena Vista County, where he attended Grant Township Country School through the 8th grade.

On September 5, 1915, Merlyn was baptized and later confirmed on September 15, 1929, at the St. John Evangelical and Reformed Church in rural Newell. He was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake where he frequently ushered.

Merlyn was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Lange on June 18, 1938, at the St. John Evangelical and Reformed Church in rural Newell. To this union three daughters and one son were born: Beverly, Barbara, Lynette and Jerald. They raised their family on the farm in Grant Township. He enjoyed many years farming until he retired in 1980.

When not farming, Merlyn enjoyed reading, watching baseball games and traveling. He was an active member of SERPACI (old car club). Merlyn especially valued his time with family and participating in the many family activities. He was active in his community and served on the County Farm Bureau Board, worked for ASCS, and belonged to the Storm Lake Kiwanis. He also worked at the Storm Lake Canning Factory and served on the Grant Township School Board and the County Extension Council.

Surviving Merlyn are his wife, Evelyn Boese of Storm Lake; three daughters: Beverly and husband Ernie Glienke of rural Aurelia, Barbara and husband Paul Posivio of Calmar, Iowa, and Lynette and husband Randy York of Waco, Texas; grandchildren: Brian and Cindy Glienke of Aurelia, Dale and Kris Glienke of Aurelia, Keith and Marcy Glienke of Aurelia, Lois and Roger Morris of Spencer, Brent and Tami Posivio of Iowa City, Jackie and Todd Feller of Cedar Rapids, Justin York and fiancé Danielle McDowell of Houston, Texas, Jamie and Ed Brunson of Germany and Josh York of Houston, Texas; great grandchildren: Adam & Stacie Glienke, Courtney and Cody Glienke, Kyle, Jason and Brandon Glienke, Levi, Dana and Tanner Morris, Mike and Luke Posivio, Scott Feller, Kelsi and Sydney Brunson; as well as a host of other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Jerald Edward on December 7, 1970.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at 2:00 pm at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 pm.
