Melvin Dannenberg - Jan. 4, 1910 - Aug. 20, 2004

Melvin Dannenberg, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Friday, August 20, 2004, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Melvin Henry Dannenberg was born on January 4, 1910, at Odebolt, Iowa, to August and Matilda (Frevert) Dannenberg. He was baptized at Richland Methodist Church near Odebolt and later confirmed at the same church. As a child, Melvin moved with his family to Escondido, California, then to Hastings, Nebraska, and back to Odebolt where Melvin graduated from high school with the Odebolt H.S. Class of 1927. He went on to attend Iowa State in Ames for one year before returning to begin farming. In addition to his farm work, Melvin was in farm machinery sales for a number of years. He retired in 1976.

On December 28, 1944, Melvin was united in marriage to Lucille Miller at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. They were blessed with a daughter, Candace.

Melvin was an active proponent of good soil conservation practices, having learned the practice from his father, who was a co-founder of the soil conservation commission. Melvin himself served as a soil conservation district commissioner for many years.

During his retirement, Melvin enjoyed playing cards with his friends and delighted in playing golf regularly. One of the highlights of his golfing career was the day he aced the number 5 hole at the Alta Golf and Country Club during Thursday afternoon league play.

Melvin was a loving husband and a devoted father whose family was always his first priority. He will be missed daily.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lucille of Storm Lake, his daughter, Candace and husband Bob Madich of Omaha, Nebraska, and his pet cat, Dusty.

Preceding Melvin in death were his parents, and his brothers, Lawrence and Walter Dannenberg.

Funeral Services will be Monday, August 23, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
