Cheryl Grau, age 50, of Newell, Iowa, died Monday, November 15, 2004, in Rochester, Minnesota.
Cheryl Colleen Steinke was born on September 13, 1954, to Merril Paul and Nina K. (Roth) Steinke in Fargo, North Dakota. Cheryl was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Nain Lutheran Church in Newell at the time of her death. She lived with her parents in Park Rapids, Minnesota, as a child, attending the Park Rapids Schools and graduating from high school there. Cheryl then went on to Art School in Alexandria, Minnesota.
On February 22, 1975, Cheryl was united in marriage to Tom Grau in Park Rapids, Minnesota. The couple’s marriage was blessed with a daughter, Michelle Cheryl.
Cheryl was a loving wife and devoted mother with a special sense of humor, who treasured her family and every moment spent with them. She had a lifelong love of dogs and horses that translated into raising and showing Burmese Mountain Dogs. Cheryl held close to her heart those cherished memories of showing the dogs with her daughter and that of a special trip she and Tom took together to Russia. She liked to unwind by spending time in her garden and working with her flowers. Cheryl always cherished the fond memories she had as a youth sponsor for the Nain Luther League. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Tom of Newell; daughter Michelle of Newell; brother Jim Steinke of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sisters: Elaine and husband Roland Senechal of Drake, North Dakota, Pat and husband Elliott Annett of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Judy and husband Bruce Patton of Park Rapids, Minnesota; parents-in-law Leo and Bernice Grau of Storm Lake, Iowa; sisters-in-law Sharon and husband Thurman Gilbert of Chandler, Arizona, and Carmen and husband Barry Miller of Sun Lakes, Arizona, as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family members and a host of friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 18, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell with Pastor Paul Johnston officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 17, 2004, from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell where the family will be present from 6-8:00 p.m.
