Virgil William Lichtenberg was born on November 8, 1920, in the Hanover community area to Edmund and Annie (Hintz) Lichtenberg. He was baptized November 8, 1920, and later confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hanover. As a child, Virgil lived with his parents in the Hanover area, and he attended country school there.

After his retirement, Virgil went into business with Lary Gunville in Storm Lake. Together they owned and operated a bait shop located behind Puff’s White Cap Inn along the lake.

Virgil liked to travel and see new places. He had a natural propensity for books and read a great deal. He was a gentle man who cared for all God’s creatures, but he especially liked cats. Virgil enjoyed playing the Spanish guitar. He had a good friend in Texas and they liked to play their guitars and sing together. Virgil’s favorite song to play and sing was “Good Night, Irene.”

Virgil Lichtenberg is survived by one aunt, numerous cousins, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
