Emery Zeman - June 8, 1924 - May 16, 2003
Emery Zeman, age 78, of Storm Lake died Friday, May 16, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Emery Zeman was born June 8, 1924, in Filer, Michigan, the son of Ed and Virginia Zeman. The family lived in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, where Emery attended school through the 11th grade.
On May 8, 1955, Emery was united in marriage to Mabel Hogrefe at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. He had earlier received his confirmation from Zion Lutheran Church.
Emery served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was sworn in to duty on January 12, 1942, and received an honorable discharge on November 26, 1946. Following his active military career, Emery joined the Merchant Marines for eight years.
Emery worked for Merrill Manufacturing and HyGrade Foods in Storm Lake retiring in 1982. Following his retirement, Emery enjoyed fishing and ballroom dancing.
Emery is survived by his wife, Mabel of Storm Lake; brothers: Robert and Ruth Zeman of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, Jim Zeman of Lompac, California, and Harold Zeman of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; sister, Charlotte Fuerbringer of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; brothers and sisters-in-law: Orville and Lilly Sievers of Newell, Iowa, Elmer and Delores Hogrefe of Lowell, Arkansas, Edna Brummer and Alma Hogrefe of Albert City; many nieces and nephews and other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Virginia Zeman, sisters-in-law, Adela Zeman and Jenny Zeman.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with Reverend Douglas Haynes officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake with military honors by AMVETS Post #66.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present to greet friends.
