Irma J. Harris - Nov. 27, 1925 - May 23, 2003

Irma J. Harris, age 77, of Des Moines formerly of Newell, passed away Friday, May 23, 2003, at Genesis Care Center in Des Moines, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Irma Jean Carlson Harris was born November 27, 1925, in Sioux Rapids, the daughter of Oscar and Blanche Dunlap Carlson. She graduated from Linn Grove High School and attended Buena Vista College. She taught country school near Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Irma was united in marriage to Edwin Harris on February 21, 1954, at their farm home, Newell.

In 1970, she received her LPN degree from Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge. She was employed at Buena Vista North Manor. Following their retirement, Irma and Edwin enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spending winters in Tucson, Arizona.

Irma enjoyed knitting and gave many afghans, slippers and stocking caps to relatives and friends.

Playing Bingo was one of her favorite pastimes in addition to the morning coffee with friends.

Her family was very important to her especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Donna Davis and friend Kasey Kiplinger, Des Moines, Iowa, three grandsons: Jeffrey and Audra Davis, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tony and Robbie Davis, Des Moines and four great grandchildren; step daughter Charlene and Jim Breazeale, Pleasantville, Iowa, three step grandsons: Steve, Shane and Shawn Breazeale, and five step great grandchildren; brothers: Oliver and Betty Carlson, Algona, Glen and Nola Carlson, Storm Lake, Oscar and Marilyn Carlson, Onalaska, Wisconsin, Don and Deb Carlson, Fort Dodge, Larry and Sheryl Carlson, Alta; one sister, Donna Stelling, Pocahontas, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband Edwin (2000), son James Lee Master (1967), infant granddaughter, parents Oscar and Blanche Carlson, brother Arvid Carlson, brother-in-law Hans Stelling, sister-in-law Jan Carlson and two nephews Bill Carlson and Rory Carlson.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Newell. Rev. Geneva Parsons will be officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
