Frederick E. Brandenburg - Oct. 28, 1917 - June 6, 2003

Frederick E. “Fred” Brandenburg, age 85, of Storm Lake died Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Frederick Eugene Brandenburg was born on October 28, 1917, in Kirklin, Indiana, the son of Ovid and Mabel (Goins) Brandenburg. The family moved to Indianapolis where Fred attended schools. He graduated from Washington High School where he excelled in football. For 26 years Fred enjoyed working at the Indy 500 Races.

Fred served his country during World War II in the United States Navy aboard the ammunition ship the Mona Loa; he was honorably discharged in 1945.

He moved to Storm Lake in 1966 where he worked as the purchasing agent for Kingan & Company, later Hy-Grade Foods. He retired in 1982. On September 14, 1970, he married Marjorie Thomas Siebels at the Methodist Parsonage in Storm Lake.

Fred was an avid golfer and was one of the charter members of Lake Creek Country Club. He was particularly proud of his two “holes in one” there. He was a fan of all sports and followed Buena Vista University and Storm Lake High School teams. He was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, Marjorie of Storm Lake, his children; James Brandenburg and his financee Beverly Jarratt of Hendersonville, TN, Sheila Brandenburg, Christiana, TN, Lori Siebels, Des Moines, Marcia Siebels, Cypress, CA, Roger Siebels, Golden Valley, AZ, a granddaughter, Shelby Herlong, Christiana, TN, and a sister Ruth Suggett of Newport, NC. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers.

Memorial services will be Monday, June 9th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. There will be no public visitation, the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
