Phyllis Potter - Aug. 14, 1924 - Aug. 27, 2003

Phyllis Potter, age 79, of Storm Lake died on August 27, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Phyllis Irene Tymeson was born on August 14, 1924, to Ariel and Gail (Crowley) Tymeson in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was baptized in the Presbyterian faith.

Phyllis spent her childhood living with her parents and brother Dick in Storm Lake, where she completed her elementary and high school education. After her high school graduation in 1942, Phyllis went to Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for a year and then enrolled at Union Pacific School. She then was employed as a secretary for the Union Pacific Railroad in Salt Lake City, Utah.

On November 29, 1945, Phyllis was united in marriage with Robert J. Potter in San Francisco, California. Two children blessed this union, a son Page and a daughter Stacey.

Phyllis was a loving wife and devoted mother who put her family’s well-being first in her life. She kept special memories of Page’s and Stacey’s weddings close to her heart over the years.

An enthusiastic sports fan who enjoyed high school and professional basketball and baseball, Phyllis liked to recall her trips to watch the Twins play. She loved to fish and remembered fondly when she began salmon fishing. Other cherished memories were the days she and Robert spent building their first house in Ames by hand, the mornings she arose early to watch the sun come up, and the days she would feed wild ducks and geese from the lake in her own backyard.

Phyllis Potter is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Potter of Storm Lake, her son, Dr. Page Potter and his wife, Beth, of Bowlus, MN, and her daughter Stacey and husband Doug Terrill of Spirit Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren Spring Terrill of Milford, Iowa, and John Sullivan of Milford; her great-granddaughter, Sierra Terrill of Milford, Iowa; her brother Dick and wife Kitty Tymeson of Florida; and her two sisters-in-law Pat Obye and Maxine Stewart.

Preceding Mrs. Potter in death were her parents, Ariel and Gail Tymeson.

Funeral Services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Friends may call at the church two hours prior to the service on Saturday.
