Richard O. Nelson - Nov. 18, 1957 - Sept. 22, 2003

Richard O. Nelson, age 45, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Storm Lake died suddenly on Monday, September 22, 2003, at his San Antonio home.

Richard Owen Nelson was born November 18, 1957, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the son of Henry Morris Nelson and Arlene Mary (Vanderby) Nelson. Richard was baptized on December 15, 1957, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ringsted, Iowa, and confirmed on May 13, 1973, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.

Richard graduated from Storm Lake High School with the class of 1976. He continued his education at Iowa State University where he graduated in 1981 and then earned a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1983.

At the time of his death he was self-employed as a design engineer.

On January 4, 1996, he was united in marriage to Maria Magdalena Romero in Wichita, Kansas. The couple had made their home in Illinois before moving to San Antonio in April of 2003.

Richard always had fond memories of growing up with his Emerald Park schoolmates, he participated in tennis at Iowa State and loved fishing and playing golf at Lake Creek Country Club in Storm Lake with his dad and brothers. He will be remembered by his wife and children as a kind, generous and loving husband and father.

He is survived by his wife Maria Magdalena, a daughter Amy Michelle, age 6 and a son Alan Richard, age 4, of San Antonio, his parents of Storm Lake, four brothers, Harlan and his wife, Virginia of Flagstaff, Arizona, Dennis Nelson of Carnsville, Missouri, Steve and his wife, Emma of Seattle, Washington, and Eric and his wife, Ann of Pella, Iowa, and a sister, Donna Nelson of Carson City, Nevada. Also surviving are three nieces, Paige, Tanna and Angelica Jo Nelson, three nephews, Shaun Kennedy and Sam and Henry Nelson along with an aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Private family funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26th in Storm Lake with Reverend Connie Spitzack of St. Mark Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at St. Mark Lutheran Church.
