Pearle Kaufman, age 101, of Storm Lake died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Pearle Margarete Goff was born May 12, 1902, on a farmstead near Newell in Providence Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa. She was one of seven children born to Dora Rosella Parker Goff and Orlando Ficklin Goff.
She was a student at Sulphur Springs school until the eighth grade when she was needed at home to care for her brothers and sisters.
On November 10, 1923, Pearle was married to Harold Francis Kaufman by Reverend Herbert Clegg at the Methodist parsonage in Storm Lake. A son and daughter were born to this union—Jack R. Kaufman and Marjorie E. Kaufman Clough, both of Storm Lake.
Pearle was a faithful member of the United Methodist church in Storm Lake, a lifetime member of the Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbor Lodge and Methodist Manor Guild. She held many offices in all her endeavors, along with being Chairman of the Election Board and P.T.A. president.
Pearle wrote and presented the history of the United Methodist church to its members. She will be long remembered for the beautiful tatting, quilting, crocheting and writings, along with the ability to alter clothes for everyone. Each of her grandchildren received a handmade quilt at their graduation. Pearle had a kind and generous spirit, always sharing her cookies, pies and rolls with shut-ins and faithfully visiting the sick.
Pearle leaves to mourn her death her son, Jack and wife Vivian Kaufman, her daughter, Marjorie Kaufman Clough and husband Roy Clough; her grandchildren, Candy Clough and husband John Fitzpatrick, Kelly and wife Connie Clough, and Linda Kaufman Jones and husband Chauncey Jones; six great-grandchildren: Joel and Kate Fitzpatrick, Greta and Amy Jones, Christian Clough and Cole Peterson.
Preceding Pearle in death were her parents, her husband Harold in 1976, a granddaughter, Kerry Jan Clough Peterson, six brothers and sisters: Harold, Dorothy, Ruth, Frances, Dora and Charles.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at 1:30 pm at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jamie Cutler officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday anytime after 3:00 where the family will be present from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. A Rebekah Lodge Memorial Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home to conclude the visitation.
