Robert Weier, age 77, of Linn Grove, Iowa died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Robert Lloy Weier, was the second child of Lloy and Jennie (Kruse) Weier, and he was born on September 24, 1932, in Spencer, Iowa. He was baptized at the Rembrandt United Methodist Church. Bob attended several elementary schools during his youth and then moved with his family to Linn Grove in 1943. He graduated with the Linn Grove High School Class of 1951. Bob was drafted into the United States Army and faithfully served his country for two years. He attained the rank of corporal and received his honorable discharge.
Bob was united in marriage to Lolita Johnson on August 2, 1956, in Lakefield, Minnesota. Together this couple was blessed with four sons: Jeffrey, Lynn, Kevin, and Brian. Bob and Lolita lived the majority of their married lifetime in Linn Grove with the exception of three years they resided in Sutherland. He was employed by Jack Cleveland, Gerald Bibler, and Doc Sundberg. Bob later worked for the Linn Grove Hatchery and the Linn Grove Rendering. He also operated a gas station in Linn Grove for several years. Bob enjoyed mowing lawns for some of the residents of Linn Grove.
Bob was a quiet person, never expecting praises for anything and always willing to help someone in their time of need. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bob loved it when the kids and grandkids would come home. He also enjoyed fishing and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. Bob liked to play cards with his friends and his sons.
Those who loved and cherished Bob’s life include his wife, Lolita of Linn Grove, Iowa; his sons: Jeff (Robbin) Weier of Denison, Iowa; Lynn (Lorna) Weier of Rockwell, Iowa; Kevin (Teresa) Weier of Sutherland, Iowa; and Brian Weier of Albert City, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Travis, Nicholas, Matthew, Lacey, Landon, Eric and Zach; three step-grandchildren: Thomas Moore, Krystal Moore, and Johnny Perrigo; his four brothers: Marlin Weier of Linn Grove, Iowa; Allen Weier of Bradgate, Iowa; Keith Weier of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; and Charlie Weier of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; two sisters, Mary Smith of Linn Grove, Iowa and Cheryl Coyle of Schleswig, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Barb Weier of Hartley, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Rich Konrady of Spencer, Iowa; a sister-in-law and her husband, Karen (Dennis) Erbes of Montrose, Minnesota; a special cousin, Sandy Clark of Springfield, Missouri; many nieces; nephews; extended family and his many friends.
Robert was preceded in death by parents and four siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside Presbyterian Church in Linn Grove. Visitation will be held Monday, January 18, 2010 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
