Bertha Bjorklund - July 6, 1914 - Aug. 11, 2005
Bertha Bjorklund, age 91, of Albert City, Iowa died, Thursday, August 11, 2005 at Pleasant View Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past three years.
Bertha was born the ninth of ten children to her parents, John and Rebecca Kelley of Jefferson, Iowa on July 6, 1914. She spent her childhood and school days in Jefferson, Iowa.
She married Arthur Bjorklund on April 18, 1936, at Albert City. The couple farmed at Dayton, Albert City and Marathon before retiring to Albert City in 1975.
Bertha was also employed by Superior Manufacturing of Albert City and Spencer and became an accomplished printer.
Bertha, who accepted Christ as her Savior as a young adult, was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and was active in White Cross and the Women’s Missions Group. She also enjoyed crocheting and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, four sisters, her husband, Arthur, one grandson-in-law, and one great granddaughter.
She is survived by her children: Sherrill and husband, Phil Lubbers of Woodbine, Alice and husband, Robert Anderson of Moline, Illinois and Stanley and wife Deborah Bjorklund of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Pleasant View Home, Albert City or the Pocahontas Hospice.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City with Reverend Steven Smith and Pastor Mark Henderson co-officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2005 at Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City where the family will be present.
