Eldon H. Johnson - Feb. 6, 1927 - Oct. 8, 2005
Eldon H. Johnson, age 78 years and 8 months, of Albert City, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.
Eldon Harry Johnson, son of Arthur and Lillie (Gustafson) Johnson, was born on February 6, 1927 at home on the family farm four miles east of Albert City. He received eight years of education at Marshall #4 Country School, four years at Albert City High School, and graduated in 1945.
Eldon was united in marriage with Florence Larson on December 17, 1948 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. They were blessed with three children: Colin, Pat, and Robert. Eldon was a devoted husband and loving father.
Eldon accepted Christ as his Savior as a young adult and was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City where he had been baptized and confirmed. He held many offices in his church throughout his lifetime as well as serving on the board of Twin Lakes Christian Center. Eldon also proudly supported the Albert City community. He was a current Pleasant View Nursing Home board member, having served on the board for 16 years, and was active in various community organizations throughout the years.
Eldon loved farming and raising turkeys, with his wife at his side. He also loved collecting old John Deere tractors and memorabilia and meeting fellow collectors. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Albert City Threshermen and Collectors Show.
Eldon treasured his children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Eldon and Florence enjoyed taking their young children on vacations, including several family trips to California by train.
Eldon and Florence moved from the farm to a Country Side Living apartment on December 28, 2004 for health reasons due to ALS. When Eldon started requiring care in Pleasant View Home on May 17, 2005, Eldon and Florence remained inseparable, devoted to each other each step of the way.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Leora Johnson, and brother-in-law Wallace Lindskoog. He is survived by his wife, Florence Johnson of Albert City, their children Colin Johnson and wife Mary of Albert City, Pat Brosamle and husband Gary of Holstein, Iowa, and Robert Johnson and wife Joleen of Albert City; sister Arlene Lindskoog of Turlock, California, brother Reuben Johnson and wife Elaine of Turlock, California, sister Alveda Johnson of Turlock, California, and sister Geneva Ahlberg and husband Delbert of Turlock, California; grandchildren Jorgen and Bjorn Johnson of Ames, Iowa, Stacie Englin and husband Tony of Garner, Iowa, Nick Brosamle and wife Julia of Ames, Iowa, and Luke Johnson of Albert City; and two great grandchildren Brandon and Tyler Englin of Garner, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City with Rev. Gavin Ellis officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery at Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, 2005 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City, where the family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
