Opal B. Kendall - Jan. 14, 1916 - Oct. 26, 2005

Opal B. Kendall, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Opal Beatrice Steig was born January 14, 1916 to Julius and Mabel Steig in Storm Lake, Iowa. She received her early education in Truesdale, Iowa in the first through third grades. She then attended school in Storm Lake, where she graduated from high school. Opal continued her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, taking a business course of study.

On September 12, 1937, Opal was married to Leroy F. Kendall in Faribault, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with a son, Steve.

Opal was a loving wife and devoted mother whose family was always first in her life. She also worked outside her home at J. C. Penney Company and at the newspaper office, as well as in the family’s business. Opal officially retired on January 14, 1980. During World War II, Opal also contributed to the war effort by doing civil service work. She enjoyed being active and found various outlets for keeping busy, including her service to her church, crafts, needlework and sewing.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church in Storm Lake, Opal was baptized on December 1, 1968. She also taught kindergarten Sunday School classes. Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish Opal’s memory are her husband, Leroy, of Storm Lake; son, Steve and his wife, Sharon of Dublin, Ohio; her grandson, Alex; a sister, June Richards, of Chicago, Illinois; and many other relatives and friends. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Mabel Steig.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake under the direction of the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
