Bessie B. Krout - May 21, 1916 - Nov. 26, 2005

Bessie B. Krout, age 89, of Marathon, Iowa died Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Bessie Barbara North was born May 21, 1916 to George and Lavina (Mills) North in Storm Lake, Iowa. As a child, Bessie was baptized into the Baptist faith. She attended North Elementary School through the 8th grade. When Bessie was 13 years old, her father passed away, so while her mother worked, she raised her three brothers and two sisters.

On April 21, 1932, Bessie married Clarence “Bud” Krout in Storm Lake, Iowa. They made their home in Storm Lake. The couple had four children: Dick, Mary, Betty and Tom. She loved her family and enjoyed being a homemaker.

Bessie worked as a bookkeeper for Garton Electric and Vilas & Company, as well as a checker for Clover Farm Grocery Store. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making crafts, doing yard work (especially mowing) and tending to her flowers. On Sundays, Bessie always made a huge family dinner, and was known for her delicious apple pies. She was always dressed nice and liked going uptown to have coffee and visit with her friends. More than anything, Bessie cherished the time she spent with her family, friends and neighbors.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Dick (wife, Judy) Krout of Lakeside, Iowa and Tom (wife, Cheri) Krout of Spencer, Iowa; her daughters, Mary (friend, Larry Struve) Peterson of Spencer, Iowa and Betty (husband, Richard) Kuhn of Denison; grandchildren: Terry Rebuhn, Jim Krout, Sheri Hallett, Lori Lundbeck, Jerry Peterson, Jody Rupp, Chad Berg, Tyler Krout and Leslie Krout; great grandchildren: Holly Boyd, Michaela Boyd, Tony Hallett, Corey Hallett, Josh Johnson, Alisha Johnson, Casey Peterson, Amy Peterson, Savanna Rupp, Erin Berg, Amanda Berg, Dylan Berg and Bailey Berg; great-great grandchildren: Trey, Jacob, Gabriella, Shay, Brendon, Emma and Alex; and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Krout; her parents; her three brothers and two sisters.
