Virginia M. Kruckman - Jan. 12, 1918 - Nov. 27, 2005

Virginia M. Kruckman, age 87 years, 10 months and 15 days, of Story City, Iowa and formerly of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2005 at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Virginia Mardelle Spitzer was born January 12, 1918 at Storm Lake, Iowa to Kirby Franklin Spitzer and Lulu Emma (Davidson) Spitzer. She was the oldest of seven children, her siblings being Geneva, Marvin, Betty, Maxine, Mary Arline and Everett.

Virginia moved to the Truesdale area at the age of four years. She entered first grade at Truesdale and completed her entire 12 years there, graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1935.

After graduation she worked for two years and then was united in marriage to Everett Butler of Sioux Rapids. To this union three daughters were born: JoAnn, Sharon and Carol Joleen.

In 1946, she married Robert Kruckman of Webb, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Judy Rae, was born.

Virginia was employed at several places in Sioux Rapids and was best known for her librarian service at the Sioux Rapids Memorial Library for 32 years, retiring in 1993. She loved to read, work cross word puzzles, sew and crochet, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family on special outings and holidays.

Virginia was in good health until this past summer when her health began to fail. She moved to Story City in September 2005 to be closer to her daughter, Judy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, three daughters, one grandson, two sisters, two brothers and her parents.

Virginia is survived by her daughter Judy and husband Douglas Weiland of Garden City, Iowa; two sisters: Maxine Lewis of Great Falls, Montana, and Arline Waggoner of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews. She will be long remembered and loved for the many lives she touched.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at First United Church of Sioux Rapids with Reverend Kris Frank officiating. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
