Kenneth J. Kas - Apr. 1, 1914 - Jan. 2, 2008
Kenneth J. Kas, age 93, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Thursday, January 2, 2008, at the El Dorado House in Gilbert, Arizona.
Kenneth John Kas was born on April 1, 1914 to John and Faye (Fisher) Kas at Random Lake, Wisconsin. Ken lived his youth in Wisconsin and Iowa. He was a 1932 graduate of the Sioux Rapids High School.
Ken was united in marriage to Esther Marie Hadenfeldt at the First Congregational Church in Sioux Rapids on September 18, 1935. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Kathleen and Karen. Following his graduation from high school, Ken worked for Kaplan’s Grocery in Laurens, Iowa. He was later in employed with Iowa Electric Light and Power. In 1939, Ken and Esther moved to a farm south Sioux Rapids where they lived and worked until their retirement. During their retirement years, they enjoyed the winter months in Texas for 20 years.
Ken was a member of the First United Church of Sioux Rapids where he faithfully served on various boards and committees of the church. He also served on the Board of Trustees for Lee Township for 25 years. Other boards that Ken actively participated in were the Livestock Breeders Association, the Livestock Feeders, the Board of Directors of the Sioux Rapids Country Club, and he was a member of the Buena Vista County Board of Adjustment. Ken was very civic-minded and had also was an active member of the Lion’s Club for many years.
Those who will always cherish his memory include his two daughters: Kathleen Weisbrod of Chandler, Arizona; and Karen Hanrahan of Sioux Rapids; his grandchildren: Kimberly Wetzel Smith of Humboldt, Iowa; Dr. Warren (Mindy) Weisbrod of Chandler, Arizona; John (Connie) Hanrahan of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Kevin (Beth) Hanrahan of Omaha, Nebraska; and Thomas (Karrie) Hanrahan of Omaha, Nebraska; his great grandchildren: Travis and Brenna Wetzel of Humboldt, Iowa; Madison and Walker Weisbrod of Chandler, Arizona; Michael and Mikayla Hanrahan of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Kenny and Karen Hanrahan of Omaha, Nebraska; and Kaylee Wallace of Omaha, Nebraska; his two sisters: Jean Anderson of Laguna Hills, California; and Marian (Lu Verne) Whitman of Rosemead, California; other relatives and many friends.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther, on October 9,1995; one brother, Harry Kas; and two sisters, Alice Eastman and Katherine Boles.
Services for Mr. Kas will be held Monday, January 7, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery at Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will take place Sunday, January 6, 2008, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, with the family present during that time.
