Wanda M. Hunter - Sept. 16, 1918 - Feb. 1, 2008
Wanda M. Hunter, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, February 1, 2008, at her home in Storm Lake.
Wanda Marie Hansen, the daughter of Neils and Anna Marie (Petersen) Hansen, was born at Perth Amboy, New Jersey, on September 16, 1918. Wanda was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Christ’s Lutheran Church in Wisner, Nebraska, in 1919. She was confirmed at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa, in 1934. Wanda began her education at Wisner, Nebraska and then moved with her family to Newell where she graduated from Newell High School in 1936.
On September 1, 1940, Wanda was united in marriage to Harold James Hunter in Newell, Iowa. This couple was blessed with five children: Judy Ann, James Allen, Bonnie Jean, Lary Dean, and Gary Lee. Following their marriage, Harold and Wanda farmed near Newell for 19 years before moving to Storm Lake in 1962. Wanda was a devoted wife and mother and truly enjoyed her family and attending all of their school and sports activities. Other special interests of Wanda’s included watching the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins baseball games, fishing, playing cards, cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and doing cross stitch. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church of Storm Lake, the “Mothers of Twins Club” and the Hobby Club.
Those who will always cherish her memory include her children: Judy and Dale Bodholdt of Newell, IA, Jim and Ginny Hunter of Spirit Lake, IA, Bonnie Hunter of Storm Lake, IA, Gary and Ann Hunter of Omaha, NE, and Lary and Diane Hunter of Spirit Lake, IA; her grandchildren: Tony (Lori) Bodholdt, Brenda (Pat) Stanton, Rhonda (Dan) Nelsen, Rodney (Sandee) Bodholdt, Paula (Brian) Olsen, Sidney (Kim) Bodholdt, Michael Bodholdt, Jana (Ryan) Meyer, Jeffrey (Jill) Hunter, Andrea (Eric) Orman, and Scott Hunter; great grandchildren: Jason and Kari Bodholdt, Laura, Ryan and Thomas Stanton, Tayler and Alyx Bodholdt, Tanner, James, Jake and Allie Olsen, Madison, Max, Mason and Morgan Bodholdt, Lucas Meyer and Tyler Orman; a brother-in-law, Don Zimmer; her sister-in-law: Arlene Zimmer; two nieces: Venita Hampton and Debbie Rix; two nephews: Cameron and Stan Zimmer; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold, on May 17, 1995; a grandson, Tim Bodholdt; a sister-in-law, Olive Zimmer; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Zimmer.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hunter will be held Monday, February 4, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Newell Cemetery under the direction of the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Friends may call Sunday, February 3, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
