Marian G. McClure - Jan. 30, 1929 - Feb. 16, 2008
Marian Grace McClure, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Marian Grace Finely, the daughter of Kenneth H. and Lalia Francis (Hoover) Finely, was born in Logan, Iowa on January 30, 1929. Marian lived her youth and received her education in Onawa, Iowa and Columbus, Nebraska where she graduated from Columbus High School in 1948.
On February 17, 1949, Marian was united in marriage to Donald T. McClure in Onawa, Iowa. This couple was blessed with two children: Cathie and Don.
While Don served his country in the United States Army, Marian and the children lived in Massachusetts. Following his honorable discharge, the family moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. Additionally, Marian and Don resided in Sioux City, Mapleton and Rockwell City, Iowa. Then, they moved to Laurel, Nebraska before returning to Iowa where they lived in Logan, Denison and Ricketts. In the end, they came to make their home in Storm Lake in 1998.
During her lifetime, Marian was employed at various jobs including being a grocery store clerk, waitress, sign painter, bookkeeper and worked at Walmart. Her most cherished vocation was being a devoted and loving wife, mother and homemaker. Family was of paramount importance to Marian. She was an active member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church where she participated in the United Methodist Women and Church Circles. She shared the gift of her time as a volunteer at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and also delivered Meals on Wheels. Marian enjoyed gardening and treasured the times she could spend with all of her family.
Those who are grateful for having shared in her life include her children: Cathie and John Graffeo of Festus, Missouri and Don and Janet McClure of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jenny and Terry Cole, Jackie Moran, Andy McClure, Mark and Amanda McClure and Valerie McClure; her three great grandchildren: Kaylee McClure, Travis Cole and Desirae Graffeo; her brother, Wayne (Betty) Finley of Brush, Colorado; three sisters: Arlene Van Berg of Sterling, Colorado, Donna (Edward) Kultgen of Woodway, Texas and Bonnie (Sam) Sweet of Tucson, Arizona; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don, on August 8, 2000; her sister, Vivian Schlievert; and her brother, Delaine Finley.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 18, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 2:00 pm.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 17, 2008, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake with the family present during that time.
