Lloyd W. Benberg - Feb. 22,1918 - Apr. 11, 2008
Lloyd W. Benberg, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center at Storm Lake, Iowa.
Lloyd W. Benberg, the son of Elmer and Hannah Olivia (Utgard) Benberg, was born at White Sulphur Spring, Montana, on February 22,1918. At the age of 7, Lloyd moved with his family to the Storm Lake area where he lived his youth and received his education at Grant No. 9 country school. Lloyd faithfully served his country in the United States Army Air Force in the medical corps from January 31,1942 to October 9, 1945. Following his honorable discharge, Lloyd returned to Iowa where he was engaged in farming.
Lloyd was united in marriage to Louise J. Andrews on March 12, 1952, and this couple was blessed with a daughter, Cathleen. Lloyd and Louise’s married lifetime was devoted to their farming vocation and raising cattle and hogs north of Storm Lake. They retired and moved into the town of Storm Lake in 1996.
He was gifted in welding and Lloyd was always ready and willing to assist his neighbors on the farm. In his leisure time, Lloyd enjoyed fishing. Lloyd was affiliated with the Bethel Baptist Church at Newell, Iowa, and was a member of the Alta VFW Post # 6172. Everyone agrees that Lloyd was a joy to know.
Those who will always cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Louise, of Storm Lake, Iowa, his daughter and her husband: Cathleen Benberg and Steven Boint of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, two half brothers: Tom and his wife, B.J., Benberg of Atlanta, Georgia, and Edwin Benberg of Portland, Oregon; a half sister: Ruth Lentz of Columbus, Ohio; brother-in-law Richard Andrews of Galva; a host of nieces and nephews he was very fond of, other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Henry, and two sisters: Mildred and Irene.
Funeral service for Mr. Benberg will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Newell, Iowa.
Visitation will be held at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Monday, April 14, 2008 from 6-8:00 p.m. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
