Lois Elizabeth Endersby, age 92, of Papillion, Nebraska, and a long time resident of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died of natural causes on Friday, August 1, 2008, at Papillion Manor, a local care facility.

Lois was the daughter of George and Verna (Hartman) Brown and was born April 14, 1916 in Dawson, Iowa, where she spent her childhood.

After she graduated from high school in 1934, she attended York College and the University of Iowa, graduating in 1938. Also in that same year, on August 16th, she married David E. Endersby, who was still a student in the college of dentistry. The following academic year, she taught school near Iowa City and in 1940, following David’s graduation, they moved to Sioux Rapids, where Dr. Endersby practiced dentistry for the next 59 years.

Lois moved from Sioux Rapids into a retirement community in Milford, Iowa in 2004 and later to Papillion, Nebraska in 2007.

Lois was active in numerous church and civic clubs, including: Eastern Star, Women’s Federated Club and Campers on Mission, as well as being a founding member of the women’s prayer group in Sioux Rapids. She had a love of music and taught piano and electric organ to many area students. She was the pianist at her church for many years and sometimes directed the church choir.

One of Lois’ favorite leisure activities was reading. She loved to travel and camp with her husband and family and took numerous interesting trips. She enjoyed gardening and canning fruit and vegetables and being the proud mother of her three children.

Lois is survived by her three children and their spouses: Lorna and Rodney Burgeson of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Elizabeth and Dennis Urbanos of Omaha, Nebraska; and Dick and Linda Endersby, also of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her husband of 69 years, and one great-granddaughter, Kathryn Mills.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids.
