Irene D. Larson - Apr. 29, 1907 - Dec. 21, 2008

Irene D. Larson, age 101, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 21, 2008, at Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Irene Dorothy Thieman, the daughter of William and Emma (Lampe) Thieman, was born near Albert City, Iowa, on April 29, 1907. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in rural Albert City. Irene lived her youth near Albert City and attended country school through the eighth grade. In 1921, she moved with her parents and her Grandfather Lampe to their home in Albert City. There Irene completed her education, graduating from the Albert City High School. She continued her education at the Capitol City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa. Irene was employed as a clerk at the Anderson Grocery Store and also worked as a secretary at the Thieman Harvestor Company.

Irene was united in marriage to Archie Floyd Larson on March 21, 1931, at St. John Lutheran Church and this union was blessed with two children, Dennis William and Dolores Dorothy. Irene loved her family and enjoyed her many flowers. In later years, Irene was employed at the Pleasant View Home in the dietary department. Irene was a faithful and active member of St. John Lutheran Church. She also belonged to the Albert City Garden Club, the Homecraft Club, the Albert City Historical Association, and the Young of Heart Club. Irene’s special interests included crafts and crocheting. She was honored by her community when she was selected as the Albert City Centennial Queen in 1999.

Those who will always cherish her memory include her son, Dennis and Kathy Larson of Clear Lake, Minnesota; her daughter, Dolores and Don E. Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona; her grandchildren: Wendel Lewis, Alan Lewis, Calvin Lewis, Scott Larson, Greg Larson, Julie Larson, Keith Bragelman, and Kris Bragelman; 12 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services for Mrs. Larson are scheduled for Monday, December 29, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Albert City. Burial will be in the St. John church cemetery. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
