Bonnie Elaine McGilligan was born April 16, 1923, the daughter of Robert and Florence (Recker) McGilligan in Bancroft, Iowa. She attended school at St. John’s Catholic School in Bancroft, graduating in 1940.
In April of 1941, Bonnie was united in marriage to Kenwood “Bill” Steffen in Spencer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with four children: Carla, Barbara, William and Tom.
Bonnie was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, where she was a member of the Caritas Choir and of St. Mary’s Guild. Additionally, Bonnie’s strong faith led her to share communion with the residents of Methodist Manor for many years.
Over the years, Bonnie was a devoted member of the Garden Club and enjoyed going to dances. She loved to travel, especially to Alaska, where she often remarked that it wasn’t so hot in the summer. During one of her trips to Alaska, Bonnie even caught a salmon. She treasured the time she spent with family and will be missed greatly.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: daughter Carla (Garth) Logan of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Barbara (Richard) Geisinger of Cherokee, Iowa; son William (Karen) Steffen of Storm Lake; son Tom (Diane) Steffen of Maple Grove, Minnesota; grandchildren: Desiree Logan, Eric Logan, Clinton Logan, Elizabeth Logan-Heisler, Rick and Rod Geisinger, Christine and Nicholas Steffen, Chad and Mandi Dreckman; 13 great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.
