Meda B. Otteman - Sept. 02, 1922 - Feb. 08, 2009

Meda B. (Hauenstein) Otteman, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died at the Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa on Sunday, February 8, 2009.

Meda was born September 2, 1922 to the late Frank and Madge Hauenstein on a farm near Columbus Junction, Iowa. Meda completed high school in Cotter, Iowa, then continued her education at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, where she graduated with a degree in teaching. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Meda came to Albert City, Iowa to teach Home Economics. On August 4, 1946, she was united in Marriage to Delwin Otteman of Albert City. Meda’s ability to recognize good architecture and design, along with her flawless sense of color coordination, soon led her to a career in interior design. For over 30 years, she served the Storm Lake and Sac City areas with Farber & Otteman Furniture stores. She also was an accomplished seamstress and did exquisite needle work.

Meda and Delwin retired from farming in 1992 and moved to Storm Lake. They also had a home in Litchfield Park, Arizona, where they wintered for many years. While in Litchfield, they were active in the Litchfield Park Presbyterian Church. Meda was a member of Chapter JD PEO, Harker House Chapter of Questers, the Art Club, and Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. She and Delwin were very proud of and supported Buena Vista College as well as Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Meda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delwin; and a brother, Roy Hauenstein.

Survivors include her sister, Roberta Johnson and husband, Don, of Overland Park, Kansas; her sister-in-law, Barbara Hauenstein of Columbus Junction, Iowa; her sister-in-law Ronona Baak and husband, Cliff, of Newell, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services for Mrs. Otteman will be held Wednesday, February 11th at 1:30 p.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Pastor Heather Shoup officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.
