Jeannie M. Berg - Oct. 13, 1925 - Mar. 12, 2009
Jeannie M. Berg, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Early, Iowa, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
Jeannie was born October 13, 1925 in Gettysburg, South Dakota, the daughter of David and Ethel (Hall) Vetter. She spent her youth in the Gettysburg area, attending school there and graduating from Gettysburg High School.
On December 6, 1951, Jeannie was united in marriage to John Edward Berg at Rapid City, South Dakota. The couple was blessed with five children: Andi, Jeannie, Veronica, Emmet and Mary Frances.
Jeannie was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, as well as a member of Sacred Heart Guild. She was a “jack of all trades,” able to make many beautiful sewn and crafted items. She enjoyed crocheting and almost any type of handwork. Jeannie also liked to read and watch mystery programs on television.
Although she was always busy, Jeannie’s first love was her family, and her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She treasured every moment she was able to spend with them. Her kind and caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Andi (David) Bonham of Fort Pierre, South Dakota; Jeannie (Roger) Van Houten of Pierre, South Dakota; Veronica Rose Isaacs, Emmet (Linda) Berg, and Mary Frances Berg, all of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Shane David (Stephanie) Bonham of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Miles Michael (Cindy) Bonham, Cody Dean Van Houten and Harley David Van Houten, all of Pierre, South Dakota; John David (Liza Fouche) Isaacs of Houston, Texas; Stefanie Michelle Isaacs of Des Moines, Iowa; Isaiah Michael (friend Kellie Burke) Isaacs of Storm Lake; Joshua John (fiancé Kelli Carstensen) Berg of White, South Dakota; and Jessica Jo Berg of Brookings, South Dakota; great-grandchildren: Alissa Joy and Payton William; sisters: Helen Etta (Robert) Wallace of Pierre, South Dakota; Anna Laura (Wally) Lucks of Worthington, Minnesota; sister-in-law Veronica Vetter, son-in-law Steve Isaacs, special friends Kim Bolles and Lacey Roberts; extended family and many friends.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her husband, John Berg; her parents, David and Ethel; brother, Phillip, her sister, Phyllis; her parents-in-law, Emmet and Margaret Berg; and brothers-in-law Calvin Greve and Chad Yost.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14th at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. An additional time of visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Early. The rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m., both at the church in Early during the Sunday visitation time.
