Steven E. Frederiksen - Aug. 16, 1948 - May 21, 2009

Steven E. Frederiksen, age 60, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa following a year long battle of cancer.

Steven Eugene Frederiksen was born on August 16, 1948 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Thomas E. and Ferne (Willemssen) Frederiksen. He was baptized, attended Sunday School, Bible School, and was confirmed at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake.

He graduated from Storm Lake Community High School in 1966. After graduation, he entered Iowa State University. After one and a half years, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with the 37th Artillery, Sixth Army in Vietnam. He received medals and commendations during his service of Bronze Star with V Device, Good Conduct, Army Accommodation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.

Steven loved to play golf, travel with his wife, Rosemary, and loved all things of nature. He lived many years on his wooded property, enjoying all of nature’s beauty.

Through all of his treatments and before his death, Steven was able to achieve his great desire to attend the wedding of his niece, Lindsey, the latter part of March. He enjoyed playing golf with is nephew, Ross, and was pleased when Ross chose to attend Iowa State University, Steven’s alma mater.

On April 25, 1992, Steven and Rosemary (Sedlak) were married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During their marriage, they were able to travel and both enjoyed artistic ventures.

Steven was very artistic. After working in various areas, he and two friends started their own advertising business in Cedar Rapids, known as “The Creative Gene.”

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary of Cedar Rapids; mother, Ferne Frederiksen of Storm Lake; brother, Tim Frederiksen and his wife, Debbie of Storm Lake; niece, Lindsey Updike and her husband, Adam of Grimes, Iowa; nephew, Ross Frederiksen of Storm Lake; aunt, Vera Rapp of Aurelia, Iowa; cousin, Bruce Rapp and Polly of Aurelia; cousin, Brian Rapp and his wife, Diane of Peoria, Arizona; sister-in-law, Chris Bolden of Cedar Rapids; niece, Beth Dunkelberger and her husband, John of Cedar Rapids; nephews: Andy and Matthew Bolden of Cedar Rapids; and great niece, Lexi Gibson of Cedar Rapids; many cousins and friends.

Steven was preceded in death by his father; his maternal grandparents; his paternal grandparents; and uncle, Harold Willemssen.
